Good question! If you choose to stay in Girdwood and you are arriving more than a couple days before the wedding, prepare to drive to Anchorage if you plan to connect with other guests/family. Forrest and I will be in Girdwood about three days before the wedding. Girdwood is about 45 minutes south of Anchorage down a scenic highway that hugs the Turnagain Arm. Some guests may opt to stay in Anchorage the days leading up to the wedding, and stay at Hotel Alyeska the night of the wedding so they don't have to make the drive back that night. It's ultimately up to you!
Anchorage is pretty spread out, and with the wedding being in Girdwood, it is suggested to arrange transportation if you plan on exploring both areas. Girdwood is a small town, and has many amenities within walking distance if you choose to stay there. Average Uber fare from Anchorage to Girdwood is about $75 one way. If you are traveling family, please don't hesitate to reach out to Dan/Joann Toomey or Patty/Richard Eissler for additional options for transportation (like possible carpooling from Anchorage to Girdwood). Anchorage's public transportation is limited, so renting a car will be the easiest way to get around.
Yes! We would love to see your little ones.
South Central Alaska fall is rather unpredictable! It is typically in the 60s, with a sunny day entering the 70s, or a rainy day dropping into the low 50s. Speaking of rain, Girdwood is a rainforest. Expect rain at least one day! Pack a rain jacket and your favorite rain boots (or Xtra Tuffs if you want to fit in with the locals!). There is a contingency plan for the ceremony if it is a downpour so you don't get soaked. But don't worry, if you don't like the weather wait an hour and it will likely change! If you are interested in hiking, pack some hiking boots and layers. There are countless trails in Anchorage, Girdwood and beyond . Alaska "formal" wear is typically pretty casual. Wear what you are comfortable in!
