Hello there!

How We Met - by Andrew

The short and sweet version

Our first official meeting was while volunteering at Bo's Place, a childhood bereavement center. Unbeknownst to me at this time, Megan had her eye on me for a while but I do not ever remember seeing her. Continuing with my oblivious theme, I did not notice Megan at the beginning of the volunteer event either. By the end of the night, I was well aware of the cute girl in jeans, a t-shirt, and no make-up. After not asking for her number that night, I went home and turned to the social media to learn more. Thankfully my first impression that she was dating another guy was wrong. After sending a few messages back and forth and realizing she was definitely interested, I called to ask her on a date. Needless to say, the first date was a smashing success!

How We Met- by Megan

For those of you that love the ~details~

Andrew and I both spend entirely too much time around Baylor College of Medicine (BCM for short). When we talk about how we met for the first time, what we really mean is when we were introduced to each other, but we had been around each other long before that. For a couple months before we officially met, Andrew was an "Anatomy Buddy" tutor and I thought he was wonderful but didn't have an excuse to talk to him. The week before we actually met, I was walking through BCM and saw Andrew sitting in the coffee shop area with some classmates. I remember thinking to myself that he was so great but definitely had to be taken already, and I had hoped to find someone just like him. Fast forward a few days and there we were volunteering together. Now he was quite oblivious, even turning down my obvious attempts to get to know him. But, by the end of the night I like to think he was smitten, hanging around for a while after the night was over and making small talk. I was a little bummed when he didn't ask for my number but hey, at least I got to talk to him. He found his way to get in touch with me and a few days later and he was calling me to invite me to dinner! I remember telling myself it was "just dinner" but I knew it was going to end up leading to more dates. He took me to dinner and dessert and we talked for hours, surprised at how much we had in common and how time was flying by on a "school night." And now here we are, many coffee study dates and many hours of conversation later. The guy I thought I never would get a chance to know (and kind of fell in love with from afar) is soon to be my husband. It's crazy how life works!

The Proposal- by Andrew

05.14.19

Due to our chaotic school schedules, family travel, and a series of other appointments, Megan had the original proposal date pinned down to the correct weekend. I love surprises and thus absolutely had to move the date. However, there are a lot of moving pieces involved to ensure a successful proposal especially on a short time frame. I was not worried about Megan saying yes, but there was one serious concern, aka I reached full-blown panic mode as to whether the custom ring would arrive from the designer in time. I arranged for Megan to meet our wedding photographer (yes we had a photographer before she had a ring) at Hermann Park on a Tuesday afternoon to look at potential photo spots for wedding photos. She thought it was a little strange that the photographer was already suggesting we look at photo spots before we were engaged, but luckily she went anyway. Thankfully, she also listened to the advice of her friends to dress up even though she "knew" the proposal wasn't going to happen until the end of the week. The pieces all fell in place when I picked up the ring 7 hours before I planned to propose. When she showed up, there was no photographer to meet. As she saw me walk out from behind the bushes, her face let me know she had figured it out. After walking around the park for several minutes, I popped the question! She said yes and we completed the night with photos and a time of prayer and scripture before heading off to dinner.

The Proposal- by Megan

Yes, it is no secret that I knew a proposal was coming. Let's be honest, I would have said yes to that question very early on, long before the topic had even come up. We talked about marriage frequently and seriously and I figured Andrew was going to propose when his parents came into town for his cousin's graduation in May. I was out of town the weekend prior, and when I came back to Houston Andrew made it his mission to mess with my mind and make it a surprise. I was on a research rotation and had plenty of free time, while Andrew was on his ER rotation, notorious for night shifts and weekends spent at work. I believed him when he told me he had to work Monday and Tuesday night of that week, plus one of my friends was working with him and also told me he had to work. Needless to say, I did not expect Tuesday at all. Luckily, my friends made sure my nails were done "for the week, since it can happen at any time" and Andrew had asked me to pick out dresses for each day because he was trying to make me overthink it every single day. On Tuesday I decided to get my hair done before I was scheduled to meet our wedding planner and photographer at the park. I arrived at the park not suspecting a thing, until I couldn't find them. I looked down at my phone to see Andrew calling me, and then as he popped into view I instantly knew the time had come. He walked me around the gardens for a few minutes before popping the question I had been waiting for. For once in my life I was speechless and only managed to mutter "Yes" and "I love you" before completely losing it. We took pictures and then popped a bottle of my favorite champagne on a picnic blanket before reading Scripture together, praying together, and calling family on our way to a perfect dinner. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day with my best friend!
