Question

What’s with the whole altitude sickness thing in Colorado?

Answer

The altitude of Denver is 5,280 feet above sea level (the mile high city!). The altitude of Estes Park, CO is 7,523 feet. Chris and I have never had an issue with altitude or even hiking at altitude but everyone should definitely take precautions and watch for signs/symptoms. -your airplane is a start; as air pressure usually sits around 7-8k on a plane. That will be the beginning to help you acclimatize -drink lots of water/electrolytes -ibuprofen can help -gradual ascension to Estes Park if you can come early and spend a few days exploring Denver! Symptoms can include: -headache, nausea, and a loss of appetite. -much more serious symptoms may include feelings of weakness, vomiting, and swelling.
