How we met - November 3, 2015

"Let’s trust the process...If other people want to abandon the process, then abandon it. I’m not abandoning it. I believe in the process.” - Dayton Moore

After 30 years, the Kansas City Royals won the championship title in the 2015 World Series of Major League Baseball. The city was buzzing with an energy of excitement. City officials announced a parade with a rally would take place November 3, 2015. Jacob moved to the Kansas City area in 2008 for a job opportunity from his home state of Iowa. As he settled in, he joined a kickball league where he formed friendships. The participants in this league are extremely involved in leadership boards, philanthropic organizations, boards, etc. in the community. Kelly was introduced to the friend group through another mutual friend. After the parade and rally were announced, a group Facebook message was created to organize who would save space on the parade route and hill for the rally, as well as how we’d all meet for the rally. It didn’t work out that way. Kansas City SHOWED UP to celebrate. Jacob arrived first on the hill and messaged the group that he’d gotten a spot. Kelly and another girl were in an Uber not far behind. Neither knew who this Jacob fellow was, but they got to spend the next seven hours with him before anyone else was able to make it to the location on the hill. After the rally, we all walked up to our friend’s condo at the top of the hill. Another group that had been unable to make it to the rally was at a Mexican restaurant a few miles away. Jacob and Kelly were the only ones interested in meeting up with them, so they walked the few miles to the restaurant. During the walk, they were able to talk more 1:1, and Kelly became interested in Jacob. The next morning, Kelly messaged Jacob on Facebook trying to subtly show her interest saying how nice it was to meet him, asking for photos he’d taken and providing her number. It didn’t work. It turned out, Jacob was dating someone. Two years later, after some Facebook messages to catch up on each other’s lives, Jacob asked Kelly out for coffee. (If you ask Jacob, we met on Bumble.)
