Our serendipitous meeting

(Bride’s POV): Mark and I met while playing Pokemon Go on a party bus on September 9, 2017. Basically, in Pokemon Go, you need a group of people to take down one of the bosses in the virtual game but in actual locations around town. Him and his 30 friends (all 28 years of age and older, yes, it may seem very lame) rented a bus and posted on a local Pokemon Go Facebook page to "follow the bus and battle with them to take down the bosses around town". Lori (bridesmaid) and I were bored and were willing to do something random, so we followed the bus and asked one of the guys if we too could come on. They invited us on and I happened to sit next to a little boy. I'm very confused now since everyone is drinking and there is no adult to claim this child. Then there was a man who picked up Krispy Kreme donuts walking down the aisle and this 7-year-old child perked up wanting a donut. But since all these adults are loud, no one heard him. I, now feeling responsible for this child yelled to the man, “This little boy would like a donut!!" The guy next to me taps me and goes, “That's his dad...I'm sure he will get one.” Low and behold it was his dad, and he sat right next to us. We started talking and things were going well for the next 2 hours we were on that bus together. When it came down to the end of the night, Lori and I realized our car was parked on the other side of town. Mark offered to drive us home and I found myself not wanting to say goodbye, so we became friends on Facebook. I happened to be going on an audiology conference trip to Banff, Canada the next day so we couldn't meet up again before that. But he reached out and we chatted the whole time in Canada and we never stopped talking since. It has only been two years since we have known each other but we have lived together for the past year, and when you know you know.

How he proposed

(Bride’s POV): His proposal was simple and sweet but still magical. He bought me tickets to the Garth Brooks concert in a city just 2 hours north of us (we live in Tucson right now, so we went to Tempe). Then we stayed in his boss's loft and hung out the next day by the river and took relaxing walks. He apparently had been holding the ring in his wallet for the past month and was waiting until the time was right. As a PhD student, my life is always hectic and stressful. But for some reason, that weekend was the opposite, I was able to let go of my worries and just breathe and have a great time. He must've sensed the moment was right when we were at an outside bar with a random older couple. They asked to buy us a drink after some time, but Mark said no and asked if they would take our picture instead. So, he told the guy to just keep taking pictures and gave the other woman my phone to video. Me, unknowing why someone would need to video it, tried to ruin everything telling her she didn’t need to video tape anything because it’s not like we would be dancing in the middle of the courtyard. But nonetheless, he insisted, and I still somehow had no idea what was about to happen. In the middle of taking a few pictures, Mark gets down on one knee and proposes. A short a sweet speech was all it took to bring me to absolute water works…Good luck to those in the front row at the ceremony, it will be a splash zone. Anyway, the man got some great pictures of us, including me crying...ha. But the woman who was videotaping had no idea how to video on an iPhone so we have about 30, 1-second video clips of his proposal. The couple was unaware it was going to happen, so basically you can just hear the woman hysterically crying instead of Mark's "speech". But still a fun, entertaining story for us nonetheless and a great chopped up proposal video.
