Because Uber and Lyft are not as prevalent in the Finger Lakes, plan on using your own transportation or reserving a car service. Seneca Lake does not have any bridges that go across it, so plan travel around the lake accordingly. It's about 45 minutes to go from the top to the bottom of the lake. From the east to west side, plan for about 35-40 miniutes,
We've always travelled using I-90 to I-86 route, so we can only speak of this route. Peach Street is a popular exit off I-90 In Erie, Pennsylvania. There are many fuel and food options available at this exit. About halfway into the trip is the city of Salamanca, which usually makes for a good stopping point. Seneca Allegheny Casino is here, as well as gas and food options. Note that once you get into New York proper, there are less exits and options for food and fuel.
Keuka :Lake, also called the Crooked Lake because of its' "Y" shape, is located just to the west of Seneca Lake. Hammondsport, located at the bottom of the "Y", was voted as the "Coolest Small Town in America" by readers of Budget Travel. If you're travelling via I-86, you might want to make the detour and stop in this quaint city for a bite to eat at Village Tavern and then stop next door at The Cinnamon Stick gift shop. There are a couple of wineries on the east side of Keuka Lake (McGregor and Ravines) that you'd indirectly pass on your way over to Seneca Lake that boast of some nice wines to acquaint you with the region.
Created during the last Ice Age by receding glaciers, the Finger Lakes of central New York State are made up of eleven lakes that, from space, look like fingers. The wedding is located on Seneca Lake which is the deepest of the Lakes at nearly 700 feet deep at its deepest point. The Finger Lakes is home to world-class Rieslings and produces more wine than any other region east of the Mississippi. Most importantly to us, this is where we got engaged and because it’s one of our favorite getaways, we wanted to share it with you.
Please keep in mind that this is a fall wedding and open air / outdoor setting. Attire is cocktail - ties are considered optional.
