We met in the stereotypical modern way, Bumble! Nick had just gotten a smart phone and Jen had just gotten single, so they both got to swiping. Both of us still remember our first text exchanges fondly. Jen had won her preferred room in her new apartment via a rock-paper-scissors competition, and Nick had some witty remarks about the ordeal, egging her on. (Little did either of us know at that time, that room turned out to not only have a mountain view, but a view of Nick's apartment as well.) Jen would always looked forward to when Nick texting because of his sarcasm, humor, and his ability to actually hold a conversation, versus the typical dating app responses. Around this time, we got into what might still be one of our biggest arguments to date, when Jen spoiled a major plot line of Game of Thrones. Nick wryly managed to finally ask Jen out, suggesting she owed him as a Blizzard (Jen had mentioned her love of Blizzards in her Bumble bio, and this is still one of the most brilliant decisions to date) for the first date as payback for her spoiling ways. Jen agreed to the terms, and what started out as a Blizzard treat turned into a whole day affair. Whole-day dates quickly turned into hiking and skiing weekends spent exploring Colorado, and not too long after, Nick quit his job to go to Thailand and Seattle with Jen for her graduate fieldwork the following summer (ah, the grad school years) and well, y'all know the rest.
