Our first date was October 7th, 2023, at Nerdvana, a gamer cafe in Frisco, TX. Before meeting in person, we had gotten to know each other a little online, and I had told Jonathan I am always early to everything (and not like a little early, more like 30 minutes early and I usually have to wait in my car). We agreed to meet for an early dinner around 4 pm, and like normal, I arrived around 3:32 pm. I messaged him I had arrived, and he surprised me by saying he was there too. He had gotten there 5 minutes before me because he didn't want me to have to wait! We chatted and played games at the café for hours, but it was time to leave the restaurant. I was already smitten, and I figured out he was as well when he asked, "Where to next?" as he was not ready to leave me just yet. We went to a local bar for another drink and to hang out for a little longer, but by 11 pm, I had to get home to let my dog out. When the night was over, we were just not done with each other. Jonathan then asked when we could see each other again. I said, "I'm free tomorrow." And we have been attached ever since.
A ring was obtained, and the date was set, with weeks of planning to get the right environment to ensure this was a surprise. The only criteria I was working with was make sure it wasn't public. The day of happened to be a day where Dani was in charge of planning our date. She had planned dinner and a couples painting class. This was the perfect opportunity to slip my proposal in as she would never have expected it. The week leading up, I probed her for our date day itinerary while heavily suggesting detours or new ideas, like getting our nails done and going to a park to spice things up. She was having none of it. March 1st arrived, and I was only able to convince her to get our nails done together on our day date, in the guise of never having done it before and wanting to try it out. So, in a last-ditch effort, I woke up early and hid the ring in the car just in case she liked one of my suggestions. (I ended up getting a "Man"icure) and as we were going about our day, I continued trying to take detours, but she still wouldn't budge. As the day finally came to an end, and as I was bringing stuff into the house, Dani mentioned she had to do something. This was my opportunity to get the ring out of the car without her noticing. My goal was simple. Make it something for her to remember. I turned off all the lights and hid around the corner of the hallway that I knew she would walk down. As she came out to turn on the lights, I scared her. She jumped and gave a little scream. She then turned around to feed the dog and as she bent down to get his food, I got on one knee and presented the ring. She turned around and said, "What are you doing?" and I popped the question. She said, "What that’s not real…" It took her a few seconds to register what was happening. Quickly, she pieced it together and said, "Yes".
