We finally were able to find and sign a contract for a new ceremony venue closer to our reception venue!
On 9/8/20, we would have celebrated 9 years of dating. Instead we're actually celebrating 4 beautiful months of marriage. We got married on our original wedding date 5/8/20 by our pastor back in Davis, witnessed by our parents and sisters. At first we didn't want to detract from the excitement of our wedding by already being married, but we are happy to share this news with you now as we still intend to have a full wedding ceremony and celebration when everything clears up. :) Thank you all for loving and supporting us, and we hope we can see you soon. If you're interested in the longer story, we wrote a recap of our wedding day and attached some photos to share :) https://www.evernote.com/shard/s605/sh/b7f4da3a-cdc8-c324-2a6c-6d1bfed849c8/4f49d2c1dd664f7e3aff21ef5e329a71 With love, Dave and Marissa
Due to the restrictions currently in place in the state of California, we are postponing our wedding. We are aiming for June 7th 2021, and will send out official invitations with the new date when we finalize that decision. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns!
We officially launch our wedding website on 09/08/2019 in celebration of our *8th* year of dating, which we are excited to announce is *8* months before our wedding date on the *8th* of May 2020! Please save the date and let us know if you have any questions!
Dave had brought Marissa and a couple of the friends back to Monterey, where they had embarked on their first Dippin' Dot adventure long ago. It was near Marissa's birthday, and believing that's what they were celebrating by going out to Monterey, Marissa found herself and her friend wandering into the local Dippin' Dot store - unsupervised. But just like the countless days before, this didn't last long, and Dave appeared behind them as he had 9 years ago. Thinking nothing of this, Marissa approached the counter ready to place an order while Dave supervised. But to Marissa's complete surprise, only seconds after they reached the counter, Dave put his arm over Marissa's shoulder and said, "We'll take the special." The cashier then reached down under the counter and pulled out a cup of Dippin' Dots like no other. In the cup was a sign that read, "Will you bring me along every time you get Dippin' Dots for the rest of our lives?" Marissa, shell-shocked, turned to Dave for an explanation, but he was already facing her, getting down on one knee, he pulled out a ring and asked her to marry him. And from that moment, Marissa concluded what she had hoped for since the beginning. Was it really hazardous to get Dippin' Dots on your own? (Read 'The Backstory' for context!) Perhaps she would never know, but what she did know was that Dave had loved her from the first time he went to get Dippin' Dots and would for all the rest of the days to come.
More of the backstory and preparation that went in to this day can be found at this link! https://www.evernote.com/shard/s605/sh/ecfc8de4-27c9-4c0d-83d7-66e05d28f5a6/27a847b5972b26b7a6e8d65c745545d4 Spirit West Coast 2011. Marissa was hesitant to go to this multi-day outdoor camping music concert, but eventually decided to brave the harsh winds of Monterey and outdoor camping for the possibility of getting closer to this guy she met just two years before, Dave Siu. Dave was a talented guitarist and very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, so naturally Marissa had been interested, but alas, he had a girlfriend at that time. That wasn’t the case during this trip. Throughout the first few days of the trip, Marissa made an effort to talk to Dave and spend time with him. She soon began wondering if it was having any effect at all, but it was impossible to tell from Dave's cool exterior. Taking a momentary break from her scheming, Marissa headed off to her old, reliable Dippin' Dots which were conveniently at this outdoor concert as well. To her surprise, Dave comes along...
