Travel Note
Getting to the Welcome Drinks at Shields Tavern: Shields Tavern is about a 10 minute walk from the Williamsburg Inn, near the colonial Capitol building. No vehicles are allowed on this section of Duke of Gloucester Street. The Shields Tavern front door is on Duke of Gloucester Street, but the building backs up to Francis Street. The tavern parking lot is on Francis Street. You can park your car here, cross the street, and access the front of the tavern through the gardens in back. If you are taking an Uber to the tavern, please ask them to drop you on Francis Street and walk through the gardens to the front. Getting to Bruton Parish Church for the Ceremony: The walk to Bruton Parish Church from the Williamsburg Inn takes about 10 minutes. You are welcome to park your car at the Inn and walk if you like. If you prefer to drive to church please note you MUST enter Duke of Gloucester Street from Nassau Street (and exit the same way). This section of Duke of Gloucester is part of the active historic area and is often crowded with pedestrian traffic so please be very careful. Please park your car pulling straight in toward the curb on the church side (do not parallel park). Please do not park near or block the entrance gate to the church. If you are taking an Uber to the church please ask the driver to drop you at the corner of Nassau and Duke of Gloucester and walk to the church from there (it's only about 50 yards). We will also have a black shuttle mini-bus ferrying passengers from the Inn to Bruton and then back again after the ceremony. Guests wishing to use the shuttle should wait at the main entrance for the Inn. I believe the last shuttle will leave at 4:15 or so for the 5 minute drive, but we have contracted their service for two hours so they will return again (but you might be late for the ceremony!) Bruton Parish is very punctual, the ceremony will begin promptly at 4:30.
Flight
Richmond will likely be the most accessible option, but there is also an airport in Newport News. Both airports are approximately a 45 minute drive from the historic area. We have checked and it looks like Ubers from Richmond Airport are about a 5 minute wait and cost $50, but if you are not staying in the historic area please look into renting a car as Ubers in Williamsburg will take much longer
Hotel
This is where we'll be having our wedding reception. We have filled up our block of rooms here, but please still call the front desk after you’ve booked and mention you are there for the Walker-Flaherty wedding!
Hotel
We have a block of 10 rooms reserved for the Williamsburg Lodge with some space in the block still available. This is located directly across the street from the Inn where the reception will be held.
House Or Rental
If you want to make the experience even more historic, Williamsburg offers rooms in colonial houses for guests to stay in. All should be in the Historic Area and within walking distance of the wedding reception/venue
Hotel
This is a beautiful venue along the James River. Please note, this venue is a 15 minute drive from the downtown Historic Area where all the wedding events will take place.
