How We Met

October 16, 2019

Nikki- In early 2019, I was still living in Alabama. I started to apply to jobs all over that applied to my degree, Social Work. One day, I received an email from TDOC. They wanted an interview. Heck, I didn’t remember applying, but sure! I ended getting the job. Of course, in typical Nikki fashion, I got lost on the way to orientation and was late. When I walked into the room for orientation, Andrew was the first person I saw. And in Owen Wilson fashion, he mouthed “wow.” Was it because I was late, his exaggeration of my heels he said he could hear, or maybe his future wife just walked in the door? We may never know. A couple months later, we were officially introduced. Over the next couple of months we ended up having mutual parolees that needed treatment provided by me. One being the excuse for us to start texting on our work phones, then having work calls, and turning into long calls that weren’t about work at all. Eventually, one of us got up the courage to ask the other to go for a drive. Covid had taken a toll and doing things like going to restaurants wasn’t allowed. We took a long drive in the Jeep and asked each other all sorts of questions. Honestly, there was no turning back from there. You can’t help where you meet your soulmate. I never would have guessed I would meet mine working in a parole office. Andrew- Two and a half years ago I walked into job orientation for something I was so hesitant and unsure I even wanted. Me, being on time per usual, was sitting in the room watching the door as people made their way in. Five minutes after the proposed start time, the HR lady said we were still waiting on one person. Right after she said this, someone with loud heels starts walking down the hallway that grabs everyone’s attention. Of course the lady with these heels walks into our classroom. Awesome. Little did I know that within a three year period I would be marrying this same woman.
