Kevin and Meagan met during their first month at Eckerd College in 2009. Through mutual friends, they started spending more time together. Despite having different majors and different views on the proper amount of studying, they became friends. By the end of the first semester, they had begun dating. Through theme parties, rugby games, and a multitude of finals weeks and moving between semesters, Kevin and Meagan became inseparable.

After 5 years of being together and beginning to set their lives in Charleston, SC, Kevin made plans for Meagan to come pick him up at his lab to go out to a very nice dinner in downtown Charleston on a beautifully clear day in May. Once Meagan arrived, Kevin convinced her to meet him out on the dock overlooking the Charleston Harbor. When she got to the dock, she found a runner lined with candles, leading to the Love of her Life down on one knee.
