Matt and Mel met working as lifeguards for the city pool in Poway, CA. On her first day Melanie was checking the pool chemicals while Matthew was working on some chemistry of his own. He quickly got her attention with his friendly confidence and authentic charm. After a little over a year, their easy friendship turned into a really meaningful connection.

Matt and Mel love camping in the Imperial Sand Dunes and they make multiple trips during the cooler months of the year. Matt bought a VW dune buggy in 2019 and the couple get it sandy every chance they get. On the last trip of the season, the sun was setting and Matt drove Mel to the top of one of Glamis' tallest dunes near Sunset Hill. They got out of the buggy to enjoy the view and watch the sun disappear over the curves of the sand. As she was looking out across the golden desert, Melanie heard Matthew say her name. When she turned around he was getting on one knee! He proposed and she of course said YES!
