How We Met

Arranged marriages really work!

Chad's dad tells it best: One day, when Requita was in 7th grade, Chad's dad and Requita's mom were at the same meeting at ECU. Volunteers were asked to be a scribe and Requita's hand jumped up, without hesitation. Chad's dad was so impressed by this middle schooler that he asked Requita's mom who she was after the meeting. When her mom said it was her daughter, he said "Oh! I have a son for her to meet". Chad's dad went home and told Chad's mom, "I found Chad a wife!".....and the rest is history.

The Proposal (Requita's perspective)

July 12, 2019

Requita was on her way home from a 13 hour work day, excited to finally get home to see Chad and relax for the weekend. She brought Chad an entire pizza from the hospital, at his request, so her hands were full when she got to the door. She pressed the doorbell a couple of times wondering what in the world Chad could be doing. (Little did she know he was occupied with a ring!) Finally, his friend Adrian opened the door and there were all of these people (family and friends) in the living room. Chad was kneeling, a few steps in front of her, surrounded by roses in the shape of a heart. Requita was so taken aback that someone had to coax her into the house. "Let’s get married" by Jagged Edge was playing in the background. Chad said some lovely things about waiting so long for this day and that he knew he wanted to marry her since he was 17 years old. Then, he popped the magical question and Requita said yes!

The Proposal (Chad's perspective)

July 12, 2019

Chad had been waiting for Requita's sister, Bridget, to come to Greenville so he could propose, because he knew Requita wanted her there. He had the ring for over a month prior to the proposal but had to wait for just the right moment to catch Requita off guard. Her sister decided to make a last-minute trip to Greenville. It turned out to be the perfect time because Requita had to work late that particular Friday. Initially, Chad thought this was going to be an intimate proposal but word spread quickly, and many family and friends showed up on Friday to watch this important moment. The day of the proposal, Chad was cleaning the house, preparing for the guests to arrive. During this time, Requita was being her usual self, calling Chad just to hear his voice throughout the day. Chad had to keep making excuses to get her off of the phone so he could continue his preparations. Finally, the moment arrived. When Requita got off work, her friend, Jen could see her exact location (thanks to Iphones) so they were able to track her from the hospital to the front door. When the door opened, Requita stood outside, looking confused and surprised, with her hands full of food that he'd requested. Once her mom led her in the house, Chad told her how much he loved her and that he'd loved her since he was 17 years old. Then, he popped the question and she said yes (as he always knew she would)!
