Train
From Midway Airport, follow signs for "CTA" or "Trains to City." Board any of the Orange Line trains toward the Loop (downtown). You may need to buy a Ventra Pass from a vending machine, though mobile wallets like Apple Pay also open the gates. After about 20 minutes on the train, get off at Harold Washington Library. Walk about three blocks east (towards Lake Michigan), crossing Michigan Avenue. You'll see a big green copper Parisian-style archway with a "Metra" sign above. Go through the archway, taking the stairs down into Van Buren Street Station. The South Shore Line leaves every 15 minutes during Rush Hour, but it might be as infrequent as two hours during mid-day or evening hours, so make sure to check the schedule and explore downtown. Board the outbound train toward South Bend. Make sure to tell the conductor you're getting off at East Chicago and pay him ($7 for adults). It'll take 45 minutes to get there. Order a rideshare to get you the last few miles to the hotel.
