Let's preface this story with for any of you who didn't know, Jordan worked for a nail salon. It was a nail salon that his mom managed but a nail salon nonetheless. Spencer and her mom, Tani, were members of this nail salon and after multiple visits, Jordan's mom, Lorrie, had basically set up a time when Spencer would come in for her appointment at the same time Jordan was working. Convenient! Spencer walked in for her appointment and Jordan was standing at the front. He tried to act as professional as possible while managing the nerves. Spencer was trying to do the same while she got her nails done. During her hour-long appointment Jordan and Spencer talked the whole time and as she was leaving Jordan gave her his number and asked if he could take her out to dinner the next time she was in town from NAU. Within a few hours, Jordan and Spencer exchanged some texts, and the first date was moved up to that evening. Spencer drove back to the nail salon around 6 PM and they went on their first date down the street at a Thai restaurant. The dinner was 4 hours long but it felt like it went by in a flash. There were so many laughs shared and there was an immediate spark. At this dinner, the story of the flying noodle developed and is laughed at until this day, but that is a story for another time.
The proposal was a surprise that was in the works for quite some time. The location was at Saguaro Lake Ranch, a spot on the Salt River just over the dam from Saguaro Lake where we spend every Saturday in the summer. I worked with our photographer, Kali, who has done a handful of photoshoots of us before, to reach out to Spencer under the guise that she needed to update her website with a specific styled shoot. The shoot was at sunrise (5:30 AM) on July 15, 2023. Spencer was up at 3 AM that morning getting ready and we were on the road just before 5 AM. Once we arrived I scrambled to hide the ring in a pocket Spencer wouldn't be able to tell since she had some suspicions leading up to the shoot. Spencer gave me one last look before going to take the first photos and didn't see a ring box in any pocket. At this point she thought, well it's not happening today. The surprise was moving along great. After taking a few photos, we walked down to a grassy meadow with a beautiful backdrop and a blanket laid out, roses and photos spread. This is the part where Spencer was actually figuring out what was happening (I think). We turned to take a photo and once we turned back, I was on one knee, ring in hand. Once Spencer came back to reality she said Yes! And this next part was the biggest surprise of it all. Spencer DID NOT cry! This was the first of many surprises I had planned for the weekend. After that, we went up to Cottonwood where we spent the day going to our favorite wineries and enjoyed a staycation. We came home Sunday night for the usual family dinner at Spencer's parent's house. When we walked in both of our families were there to celebrate.
