Safety in Quito

Safety in Quito

Your safety is very important to us, and we want you to feel at ease in Quito. With any big city it’s wise to use common sense and take a few precautions. Quito’s people are very welcoming, and if you need help or directions, don’t hesitate to approach a shopkeeper, guard, or staff at your hotel. Stay in Safe Areas: Stick to the main tourist-friendly neighborhoods (Historic Center, La Mariscal, La Floresta, La Carolina) which are patrolled and considered safe for visitors. You'll see guards and police nearly everywhere – their presence is normal and meant to help you, so don’t be alarmed. Be Mindful of Belongings: Do not flash expensive jewelry or your phone. Use a hidden money belt or zipped bag for passports and cards. Use Reputable Transportation: After dark, always take registered taxis or Uber instead of walking. General Caution at Night: At night, stay in well-lit, busy areas and avoid empty streets or parks.

Uber in Quito

Uber in Quito

Quito has Uber and it's widely used here. If you speak some basic Spanish, feel comfortable taking the numerous yellow taxis. Just make sure to confirm your rate and where you are going before you agree to the ride.

SN Avenida Manuel Córdova Galarza, Quito, Pichincha 170311, Ecuador

Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World) > It's about $8 to enter the village > A 30-40-minute drive from La Carolina area of Quito Stand with one foot in each hemisphere! Also, there are llamas!! >It’s a fun way to spend half-day and be able to say you've been to the middle of the world on the line of the equator. The complex is like a historical village with a small museum and exhibits about Ecuador’s diverse cultures and the science of the equator. >This town is about a ten-minute drive from Fernando and Hilary's home. His parents, Fernando and Nelly, have the most wonderful restaurant inside of the village with incredible, traditional Ecuadorian food (linked below).
