COVID-19 update

25.04.2020

BULGARIAN WEDDING || There are cases of COVID-19 in Bulgaria. The fast actions of our government, however, results in a steady (instead of growing) number of cases and overall low hospitalisation and mortality rate. Until May 13th no Belgian or American citizen without long term residency can enter Bulgaria; restaurants and bars are closed, hotels are not receiving any guest. We hope everything will be back to normal before the wedding. As there is no way of knowing what to expect, and some of you already bought plane tickets and booked rooms, we will continue planning the wedding. We will give regular updates on this website when there is more news. If we decide to postpone (min. 2-3 weeks notice before the wedding), we will contact each guest personally. If you are travelling to attend the wedding, we will be as flexible as possible. On the invitation the RSVP deadline says somewhere in May. If you would like to postpone your decision to attend, let us know and you can RSVP by the end of June. BELGIAN WEDDING || Everything depends on the Bulgarian wedding, as we will need our marriage certificate from Bulgaria for the church wedding to be able to take place. If we need to postpone, we will let everyone know by the end of June.

"Hi"

September 2017 - our first Hello

While on Erasmus exchange in Bulgaria for her studies, Femke was looking for activities to meet new people. A walk around the center of Blagoevgrad brought her to Chat Club, a different themed evening happening every Thursday. On the second Thursday, after the activity, she was doubting whether or not to go for drinks with the others. She was waiting for them to convince her, when Bobi showed up and took a seat behind her. If you ask Bobi, he will always say this is the moment they met. Femke disagrees completely, because at that point she had no clue Bobi existed. A couple of minutes later, the whole group arrived at the bar. (Yes, Femke is very easily convinced and will do almost everything she initially says no to.) And while there were a couple of seats left at the other side of the table, Bobi decided to make a bold move and place one of those chairs next to Femke. And that is how it happened. September... 2017, when they first said "Hi" to eachother. **Bobi says he was in love with Femke from the moment he took the seat behind her. | Femke proceeded by immediately texting her friend about the hot police officer who was going to teach her Bulgarian (pictures of shirtless Bobi included).**

The Proposal

09-April-2019

In April 2019 Femke left for a short trip to Bulgaria, one of the many meet-ups they did while Femke was finishing her Masters degree in Belgium. What was supposed to be just another weekend togehter would soon turn out to hold one of the milestones of their life as a couple. At that point, Femke and Borislav had joked for months about getting married. Whenever Borislav said something sweet, Femke would reply with "Is that a proposal?", to which Bobi always replied "No. Not yet". Their own very bad inside joke, so to say. When Borislav decided to buy the ring however, he struggled the whole evening to get her to say these words, but Femke (completely oblivious) just didn't say them. "Is that a proposal" was, for more than one hour of showering her with love and compliments, consistently replaced by "I love you too", and "I also want to stay with you for the rest of my life". Borislav eventually tried to take her out for a walk, maybe a change of scenery would do wonders. But even next to the mall's garbage bins (which he was seriously considering as THE place to do it), he was hindered by a couple of women who were passing by. Arriving at the end of their walk, next to the river, he eventually stopped, got down on one knee and proposed. Femke then eventually said yes, after asking him at least 7 times if he was joking (leaving him on one knee the whole time while Borislav was waving the 'too expensive to be a joke'-ring in front of her).
