FAQs

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Dress code is Dressy-Casual. Think garden & cocktail attire such as sundresses, cocktail dresses, floral prints, suits in lighter hues, dressy jumpsuits, and light jackets and slacks. We want you to look good, but also feel comfortable, so if those shoes are too high or that top button is too tight, let it all hang loose. Please no shorts, jeans, sneakers, flip flops, etc.

Question

Is there a shuttle to and from the hotel to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes, the Motorcoach will pick everyone up at 2:15 in Old San Juan. Further details are on the Schedule page.

Question

Airport, Parking, Transportation, Traffic

Answer

Uber is not authorized to pick up passengers at the airport. Alternatively, there is a cab line outside of luggage available. They are, however, authorized to take passengers to the airport. While there may be a select exception, street parking in Old San Juan by in large is for permitted residents only and is enforced by ticketing. We were hit with a $250 ticket a few years back. Grumble. There is, however, plenty of short and long term available, including the Doña Fela parking deck, centrally located in Old San Juan and, coincidentally, a stone throws away from where we’re staying. Traffic in Old San Juan can get pretty heavy at night, and taking Uber is advisable. Trips to and throughout Old San Juan or Condado and Isla Verde generally cost between $7 and $17 one way. If you’re leaving Old San Juan by Uber, we recommend getting picked up at Plaza Colón as streets are many narrow one-way streets and traffic can move pretty slow.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

We love your kids—we really do! But we would love for our wedding to be your night off! We understand, however, if this isn't feasible.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.

Question

What if I have a dietary restriction?

Answer

If you are gluten, vegan, vegetarian, etc, please let us know ahead of time by emailing us at melissa.james.wedding.2019@gmail.com.

Question

Is there a registry?

Answer

There is, it's located on this website, above. We politely ask for nothing boxed, as we'll have to go through multiple airports to get back home.

Question

Any personal recommendations?

Answer

We encourage you to go venture outside of Old San Juan if possible, although most nature-based expeditions require renting a car, if not a tour guide with transportation. We can personally attest to rapelling in the rainforest, hiking El Yunque rainforest, and taking the ferry to neighboring Culebra Island. There’s still much we personally haven’t experienced that we highly recommend looking into if you are afforded the opportunity, including seeing the bioluminescent bay. The best one is supposed to be Mosquito Bay in Vieques, followed by Laguna Grande in Fajardo, about 30-45 mins east of Old San Juan. If you can make it to either Vieques or Culebra, you should 100% do it. Beaches are picturesque. Ferries to Vieques and Culebra are available from the Fajardo area at $2 per person. Click here for more ferry info. The Catamaran Spread Eagle II was recommended to us by a family friend for sail and snorkeling trips.
