Question

What airport should we be flying into, and when should we plan to arrive?

Answer

Athens International Airport. If you are taking a connecting flight, we suggest arriving at least 2 days prior to the wedding. If you are taking a direct (nonstop) flight, arriving 1 day before the wedding should be okay.

Question

When should we book our flights and hotel?

Answer

For the hotels, the sooner the better! For flights, it varies. "Hopper" is a great app to download that will send you push notifications on the best time to book your flight. Please see "Travel" section for more details on hotels.

Question

Connecting flight vs. nonstop flight

Answer

If you book a connecting flight, it would be wise to make sure your layover is at least 2 hours (just incase there is a flight delay).

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Absolutely! Please be sure to include them in the RSVP.

Question

Transportation to the wedding

Answer

A shuttle will be provided to and from the 3 hotels that we suggested (see "Travel" section on this website). If you stay somewhere besides those 3 hotels, a taxi is your best option. As per the venue, there should be no issues getting a taxi after the wedding. If you decide to rent a car, there will be valet parking at the venue.

Question

How far is the wedding venue from the center of Athens?

Answer

The wedding venue, and the 3 recommended hotels, are approximately 45 minues away from the center of Athens.

Question

Getting around in Athens

Answer

Taxis are easy to find in Athens and they are cheap. You can download the app called "BEAT" (this is like Uber) on your Android or iPhone in order to find taxis conveniently from wherever you are. You can pay through the app or with cash. Uber also works in Athens! You can also simply ask your hotel to call a taxi for you.

Question

What food should we try while in Greece?

Answer

Fried or grilled squid, aka calamari Grilled octopus Gyros - Chicken or pork from a spit wrapped in a pita with tzatziki, tomato, & fries Greek salad - Greece has the best tomatoes, olive oil and feta cheese! Tiropita or spanakopita - cheese pie or spinach & cheese pie

Question

Is it necessary to make reservations?

Answer

Reservations are not necessary for most restaurants in Athens, a city known for casual tavernas and outstanding street food. Most restaurants here don’t take reservations. However, for fine dining or for dining with a view at the best rooftop restaurants and bars, it’s a good idea to reserve a table in advance.

Question

Tipping in Greece

Answer

Tipping is customary in Greece, but it is not percentage-based as it is in the U.S. It is customary to tip about €2 to €5 for a meal, maybe more in an expensive restaurant.
