The Story of Our First Encounter

From Rivals to Lovers

Jansis, an art student, spotted Corgan, a newcomer, intensely focused on a charcoal drawing. She was surprised to see someone who’s artistic talent was on par with hers. She knew then and there she had some competition. As the last two art majors to enroll, they shared several classes, but Corgan's quiet nature made class sessions uneventful despite her efforts. After Jansis graduated and moved to Pittsburg, she unexpectedly ran into Corgan during Neewollah the following year. Their conversation about her storyboard class inspired him to join. The next semester, Jansis was surprised to see Corgan, now sporting long hair and a beard. Wanting to befriend him, so she would have a friend in her major, she quickly offered to show him around campus. They exchanged contact information and soon after Corgan got comfortable enough to ask Jansis to pick him up when his car battery ran out. Let’s say this became a regular occurrence.

Our Very First Date

June, 9th 2019

As their bond deepened, the school year came to a close, and Corgan returned to Independence for the summer. With both of them working full-time jobs, they could only meet on weekends. One day, Corgan called to ask Jansis out on a proper date. They enjoyed a meal at a local Italian restaurant before heading to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Afterward, they stopped by Walmart to pick up some snacks, and Corgan brought blankets to spread out at the park. They sat together, sharing stories and laughter, and before they realized it, night fell, bringing with it a flurry of fireflies. That’s the night Corgan asked to be official, it turned out to be a perfect day.

The Proposal

5 years later

A lot has transpired in the five years that Corgan and Jansis have been together. They graduated with their bachelor's degrees, moved in together, relocated across the country, and welcomed a couple of dogs and frogs into their lives. Most recently, they moved to Wichita, KS. Jansis had been hinting about the ring for a few years and had been patiently waiting. She sensed something was up when Corgan kept checking the mailbox, which was unusual for him. Sitting at her desk by the window, she noticed Corgan take something from the mailbox and slip it into his pocket. Could it be? A week later, he asked her to take a three-hour drive to Pittsburg for a special date, raising her suspicions. They had several favorite spots in Pittsburg, one being a restaurant they cherished visiting on their anniversaries, but to their dismay, it was closed! They opted for their second favorite place and ordered a new sandwich, which turned out to be the best sandwich they'd ever tasted! Afterwards, they visited Roots Coffee, their old weekend ritual for coffee and drawing. Naturally, Corgan suggested a stroll in the park to let their meal settle. As they wandered, it felt like they were going in circles—Corgan was stalling and clearly nervous! Finally, he chose a spot, dropped to one knee, and popped the big question... to which an tear eyed Jansis said of course!
