Shelby moved into Solberg at Augustana in the fall of 2011, just down the hall from Matt. This was convenient, as Shelby frequently grabbed her morning cup of coffee from Matt's room on her way to class. Their mutual love of music brought them close together early in their friendship. As violinists in Augie's orchestra, they spent plenty of time together. They even learned a duet on the piano and were excited to share it with Shelby's parents when they came to move her out of Solberg in May - Kaye still has that video on her phone! Shelby worked as a youth leader at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church throughout her time at Augie. In the summer of 2014 Shelby asked Matt to join on a youth outing because they were in need of another chaperone. That was the start of their time working together at Gloria Dei (the church the Andersons are members of)! They spent their Wednesday nights working with high school youth for the rest of their time at Augie. It wasn't until October 2014 that Shelby and Matt officially started dating, and they started their relationship off with a road trip to visit Matt's brother, Jacob, in Montana. After 41 hours in the car together, they knew this was just the beginning of their adventures. Shelby graduated from Augie in 2015 and spent her summer living with the Anderson family in Sioux Falls before moving to Glendale, AZ for optometry school. Matt moved to Minneapolis, MN for dental school in 2016. Although living 1275 miles apart has made spending time together challenging, they have continued to grow closer together each and every day. Shelby and Matt are thankful that they have been able to fly to one another nearly every month since starting school. God has blessed the two with an adorable kitten, Toby, who manages to keep them entertained 24/7! Shelby and Matt look forward to beginning their lives together this summer after Shelby finishes her final year of optometry school at Midwestern University. They can't wait to see you on May 25th!
