Zona Rosa, also known as "Zona T" for the T shaped area at its heart, is one of Bogotá's major shopping and entertainment districts, home to Michelin starred restaurants, bars, five star hotels and resorts, as well as luxury shops and boutiques.
The sanctuary of Monserrate in the eastern hills of Bogotá can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. It is located at 3,172 meters above sea level, at the top of Monserrate or Cerro de Las Nieves. This is one of the highest points of the city. You can make the trek up yourself or take a cable car. At the top is a beautiful church and some nice restaurants, and you can view the entire city from here.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is an underground Roman Catholic church built within the tunnels of a salt mine 200 metres underground in a halite mountain near the city of Zipaquirá about 45 min. from Bogota. You can take a short picturesque train trip from Bogota and enjoy some country sites.
Usaquen is a vibrant, trendy neighborhood in the north of Bogota known for its foodie scene, cafes, antique stores, and on Sundays, it's sprawling flea market where you will find gourmet food stands and fine handmade goods. It's an excellent place to have breakfast or brunch.
Largest park in the city, it is formed by five smaller parks: The Simon Bolivar, El Salitre, Parque de los Novios, Unidad Deportiva El Salitre and Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis. The system includes artificial lakes, 2 parks, a children's museum and the Colosseum. It's well known for hosting many concerts.
The Laguna de Guatavita or Lake Guatavita is located about an hour from Bogotá. Once a sacred site for the indigenous peoples, gold discovered there helped launch the legend of El Dorado. The lake today is gorgeous and a neat day trip from Bogotá, especially for those who want a break from the big city to enjoy some nature. If interested to visit, do your research and plan beforehand as there are some rules visitors must follow to visit the lake.
The Bolívar Square (Spanish: Plaza de Bolívar or Plaza Bolívar) is the main square of Bogotá. The square is located in the heart of the historical area of the city and hosts a statue of Simón Bolívar, sculpted in 1846 by the Italian Pietro Tenerani, which was the first public monument in the city.
La Calera is a municipality and town 11 miles over land from Bogota. La Calera is a common weekend destination, where you will find excellent restaurants and amazing views of the city. It's a great place for a bonfire and a canelazo, a spiced hot drink made with Aguardiente, the famous Colombian anise liquor.
