Bogota has a mild highland climate year round. Around September daytime temperatures are around 65 degrees and at night it can drop to the mid 40s. Bring a jacket and warm clothing you can layer. Also, bring an umbrella. It rains unexpectedly throughout the day.
Bogota, like many other large cities, has some unsafe areas. It is a busy, bustling place with A LOT of people, so there are pickpockets around the city. Be watchful of your belongings and surroundings. The area around the wedding venue is one of the best in the city, but you should still be cautious. If you are planning to visit a specific place, do your research about the area or ask us. Avoid taking taxis in the street. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or watches or flashy clothing. Try not to take your phone or money out in public. Be cautious and aware.
Colombian Pesos. One US dollar is about 4,800 COL pesos. Avoid using currency exchange offices in the city. You will probably find a better rate with a bank or at a currency exchange office in the U.S. You can also just use a credit card. VISA or Mastercard are accepted. DISCOVER and American Xpress are sometimes not accepted in certain places. We would recommend having some cash for tips.
The safest way to get around is by having your hotel order a taxi for you or ordering a taxi from an app or sites like Talixo or Welcome Pickups. Driving in Bogota can be stressful and dangerous, and the traffic is horrendous, so we would not recommend driving on your own.
