We grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools, but it took a dating app for us to be aware of each other's existences and meet in these modern times! We're both teachers too, so who has time to meet new people outside of teaching, lesson planning, grading papers, and coaching?
Tina learned from experience that first meet-up dates had to be quick, like coffee (or ice cream, as suggested by her friend Jennifer). Despite being geographically challenged, Evan was able to find a coffee shop at the halfway point between the two, in San Leandro. The quick coffee date turned into a two-hour getting-to-know-you "interview," complete with an impromptu math quiz and sports trivia session that had Evan sweating bullets. Apparently, he liked it though because he texted Tina back within the hour about the good time he had.
This all-out Gryffindor knew that only a real-life puzzle planned down to every detail would do for this Ravenclaw. Evan arranged for Tina's friends to take her to an escape room in SF the day after the last day of school. Upon unlocking a safe as part of the challenge, a ring box appeared, and so did Evan. He proposed in front of her closest friends, and the two celebrated with a surprise engagement party attended by their closest loved ones. Photos by Joss Li @jossliphoto
