Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

There are basically two options in Girdwood- the Alyeska Resort hotel, and Airbnb/VRBO rentals. Alyeska is a very large hotel that has a handful of restaurants inside it, along with a spa, pool, aerial tram etc. It's a convenient place to stay, but it will run you a little more than an Airbnb. There are tons of short term rentals if you do a search on either Airbnb or VRBO. Girdwood is so small you don't need to worry about location, as everything is within a mile or two of the wedding venue. Whichever route you choose, we recommend booking ASAP. Girdwood gets busy with tourist season in the summer, and it may be hard to find a place if you wait too long.

Question

How do I get to Girdwood?

Answer

You will want to fly into Ted Stevens airport in Anchorage. Girdwood is 40 miles from Anchorage, so you will then need transportation to Girdwood. The easiest way is to rent a car and drive down, however you may not need a car once in Girdwood so you may consider a shuttle service. The main shuttle service is BAC (www.bactrans.com). If you plan to stay longer than the weekend and do some other things around the state, we would definitely recommend a car rental. Like accommodations, car rentals fill up fast in the summer, so sooner is better than later. We are also available to help. If you are coming in by yourself and don't want to spend the money on a car or shuttle, let us know and we will help find you a ride to Girdwood with one of the many vehicles that will be coming this way. We will have family around to help pick folks up at the airport, so be in touch!* *We heard Ben Starr is offering free airport transport.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Whatever you want! There will likely be a wide spectrum on this one. You don't need a suit and tie, but you are welcome to wear one. Bring a warm layer and a raincoat just in case. If you end up with a fleece over your dress, you will fit right in in Alaska. Call it Alaska formal, which is less than regular formal. I'm not wearing a tux, so don't out-dress me! -Dan

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Absolutely. But you might find the party more fun if you get a babysitter ; )
