Having met in high school in 2009, we didn't become serious until 2014. In May of 2016, we got engaged and purposefully took the time to just enjoy it. Now the big day is actually upon us and we are so excited to finally be married. Break out the extra-tuffs its party time!
The first Thursday of every month, Bear Tooth Theatre Pub in Anchorage hosts their First Tap concerts, where they unveil the new beer for the month in one big party. The May 5th first tap in 2016 was Lord Huron. Evan and I have loved Lord Huron for a long time (he deserves all the credit for discovering them) and so I immediately bought us tickets. That morning, we had planned to go hiking, get dinner and then head over to the show. When we got to the trailhead, though, it was snowing. Cool, thanks, Alaska in MAY. We decided instead to head to the zoo. Evan hadn't been since he was a kid, so we spent the day being amazed at tigers and having the zoo basically to ourselves. We got dinner at Tommy's Burgers (a beautiful little dive burger shop) and headed to the concert. Everything was so perfect that day. Halfway through the concert, I couldn't stand it anymore. I turned to Evan. "Hey." "Hey." "You wanna marry me?" He grinned. "Yeah, okay." "Right, yeah, I know, but like, I'm asking you for real. I'm proposing to you." He grinned wider. "Yeah, I know, I'm saying yes." And then we just tuned back into the show. Afterwards, we followed the band to a little after-party show they played. While there, we ran into our friend Josh who asked me, "you guys wanna get on the bus?" Long story short, we ended up on the band's tour bus, drinking beer with our favorite band, driving around Anchorage until 5 in the morning, when we finally caught a cab home. We topped off the night by playing mario kart well into the morning, just trying to absorb everything that had happened that day. And that's the story of my favorite Cinco de Mayo ever.
