Our Story

The couple first met at the middle school youth group at Alderwood. Summer was in 8th grade and Ethan was in 6th, so they didn’t talk to each other much. After all, no one has any business trying to make conversation with a 6th grade boy, much less one who’s always running around screaming about games. The two continued to grow in their faith throughout high school without crossing paths much, and eventually went their separate ways for college—Summer to Spokane, and Ethan to Los Angeles. After graduating, they both happened to make their way back to Seattle, and to Alderwood. Ethan had started a young adult Life Group with Austin to create community and fellowship with other college graduates. And also to meet girls. Summer came back to Alderwood to introduce a friend to the church and found herself on the receiving end of an overenthusiastic invitation to join the young adult group. A few weeks and a Life Group mini golf outing later, Ethan asked her to go on a date. Call it luck, or maybe it was divine timing, but their dinner at Junebaby happened the day before restaurants were shut down for COVID. And it was that date where they discovered that they are both, in fact, June babies. June 3rd babies to be exact. With everything closed, they had to get creative with quarantine dates, going snowshoeing and making pasta at home. On a drive up the Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway, they made it official. A little over a year later they returned to the Olympic Peninsula, to the place it began, for “just a camping trip” with friends. Summer didn’t suspect a thing, but Ethan had been planning that trip in his mind for nearly 2 months, ever since he had selected the ring. They spent the day hiking to coves and exploring tide pools, and on a sunset beach walk, he asked her to marry him. She said yes, and now they look forward to welcoming you to celebrate their wedding with them!
