Make the most of your time in South Korea, which is full of amazing things to see and experience. Just a reminder that all wedding festivities are happening in Daejeon on Saturday the 25th, so please book hotels there for 24th-26th. For days prior to and following, we recommend you enjoy what Seoul has to offer. Feel free to reach out to the bride or groom with any questions.

Flight

1. Seoul-Incheon International Airport (ICN)

You will need to fly in/out from Seoul-Incheon International Airport (ICN).

Train

2. Incheon Airport to Hongik University Station (Seoul)

We suggest guests stay in the Hongdae (Hongik University) district of Seoul if they arrive before Friday March 24th, 2023. The subway system in Seoul is one of the best in the world, and this is the best way to get around the city. From the airport, you can take the Airport Line directly to Hongik University station. Make sure you take the non-express train; the express one will take you directly to Seoul Station. If you plan to use the subway substantially, we recommend you get a T-Money Card from any of the convenience stores (7-eleven, CU, GS25) at the airport or once you get into the city. You can charge the card with money (only in cash) and use it for subways, buses, and even cabs.

Hotel

3. Hongdae Accomodation (Seoul)

You can book any hotel on Booking.com or Airbnb close to Hongik University Station (Hongdae). There's plenty to see and eat around the area, and Hongdae Station has three subway lines that can get you just about anywhere in the city. For recommendations on what to do during your time here, check out the Things To Do page, and look out for a separate blog that will follow soon.

Train

4. KTX Train to Daejeon

To get from Seoul to Daejeon, the best way to travel is the KTX, Korea's national high-speed train system. You can buy tickets at the website linked below. We recommend you come down to Daejeon on Friday, but if you wake up early, you could come down Saturday morning as well. Please note that Daejeon Station is about 30 minutes away from the wedding ceremony venue, with an additional 10-minute walk if you take the subway to Yuseong Spa Station from Daejeon Station.

Hotel

5. Yousung Hotel

Oncheon-ro, Daejeon 305-301, South Korea
 +82 42-820-0100

As this is where our reception will be held on Saturday night, it's an ideal place to stay during your time in Daejeon as well! It's a 10-minute walk to the wedding ceremony venue, and about a 7-minute walk from Yuseong Spa Station. Any other accommodation close to Yuseong Spa Station will also be great

Train

6. Daejeon to Incheon Airport

You can take the KTX to Seoul Station and then the Express Airport Line to Seoul-Incheon International Airport. The other option is to, of course, go back to Seoul and continue exploring OR visit another city in South Korea; we recommend Busan or Jeju Island, which is a short flight away.

Travel Note

Things to Know About Korea

1. Google Maps does not work in Korea. Please download the Naver Map or Kakao Map app for accurate directions, especially for public transportation. 2. To call a cab, the best app to use is Kakao Taxi. 3. Traveler sim cards are usually only available at the airport, so don't miss your chance to get one while you're there. 4. The Hongdae University area is a popular district for foreign travelers and students, and money exchange services are widely available. 5. March is still fairly chilly in Korea (winter going on spring). Bring layers and at least one coat just in case. If we're lucky though, we could see cherry blossoms! 6. Don't drink the tap water; always buy mineral water from a mart or convenience store. Water provided at most restaurants is purified and free of charge. 7. FOOD: If you can't eat spicy food, just be careful because spicy (and sometimes even not spicy) means spicy in Korea. If you're vegetarian, vegan, or halal, we recommend you do your own research before eating out as veganism is a very new concept in the country. For those who are halal, we recommend you look into restaurants in Itaewon. If you are allergic to anything, we recommend you write the phrase in Korean on your phone and just show it to your waiter; most older Koreans don't speak English well enough to understand you when you tell them. You can ask Esther if you'd like any key phrases translated ahead of time!
