The location of our wedding ceremony is still the same (Bridge Street Wedding Chapel). We have been given the OK to invite all of our guests, despite restrictions on indoor gatherings. The owners of the chapel ask that everyone wear a mask for the ceremony. Due to restrictions on indoor gatherings, the wedding reception has been moved outdoors with a guest list of approximately 80 people. Hope Sports Complex / Cleats Bar & Grille 5801 N Aurelius Rd, Lansing, MI 48911 Cocktail hour will be on an uncovered patio, and the rest of the evening will be in a large wedding tent that will allow for social distancing. Please dress for the weather (and feel free to bring a change of clothes for the reception). We will have some lawn games, such as corn hole. (You can even bring your own!) The soccer complex is known for being especially windy, so ladies with long hair might want to plan ahead and/or bring hair ties.
It all began when Erin and Steven matched on the dating app Tinder on the night of July 3rd, 2018. She sent him a GIF of a cute baby seal saying "sup," prompting the first and only conversation he had on the app. They messaged back and forth until 4 AM, then continued the next afternoon. It was July 4th and Erin did not have plans, but Steven was having a casual barbecue with his family and heading into town to see a fireworks show. He was crazy enough to ask Erin to join them, and she was crazy enough to say yes. Sparks flew (both literally and figuratively), and they've been inseparable ever since.
The topic of marriage had been casually thrown around for quite some time, but seriously came up the weekend of their one year anniversary while driving home from a family trip with the Bargers up north. Steven had the feeling that Mr. Barger thought he would ask to marry Erin that weekend, and she agreed that he probably did! On December 14th, 2019 Steven had received Mr. Barger's blessing to marry Erin, and soon after they went to a jewelry store to get a custom engagement ring designed using the diamonds from her late grandmother's engagement ring. She spent all winter break feverishly planning a summer 2020 wedding, despite the lack of ring and official proposal.
On the evening of January 6th, 2020 Erin turned on Steven's school/gaming laptop to see an error message about the hard drive. They had some back and forth, asking if the laptop had worked earlier and if either of them had dropped it. Steven prompted her to turn it off, flip it over, unscrew the screws, and take off the backing to see what was wrong. After struggling to accomplish this task on her own due to a stuck corner, Steven reluctantly took her place and lifted off the back to reveal a ring taped inside where the hard drive should have been. He removed the ring, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said yes.
