The Blue Ridge Parkway is magical, especially in the fall. Start up the parkway near the NC Arboretum, stop to hike at Skinny Dip Falls (short, easy hike to waterfall), continue up to Pisgah Inn for amazing views off the back porch and delicious licorice in the gift shop, then continue down the mountain to Looking Glass Falls. After this trip, you'll enjoy a stop at Sierra Nevada Brewery or Bold Rock Cider to end the afternoon.

Former warehouses and mills, many with colorful exterior murals, contain glassblowing, pottery, and other artisan studios, plus indie art galleries.
