Sand Harbor State Park
Sand Harbor Beach offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy, including swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. There are also several hiking trails nearby. Facilities: The beach has several facilities for visitors, including picnic areas, barbecue grills, restrooms, and a concession stand. Parking: There is a large parking lot at Sand Harbor Beach, but it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays. There is a fee for parking, which is used to maintain the facilities at the beach. Day-use reservations will be required daily during the park’s peak season, from April 15 to October 15. A reservation will be required for entry by vehicle from park opening at 8 to 10:30 a.m. Visitors arriving during this time must secure a reservation in advance. After 10:30 a.m., any unclaimed reservation spots will become available on a first-come, first-served basis. http://www.reservenevada.com
Tahoe Rim Trail
Near Glenbrook, there are two trail heads off Hwy 50 (one on the south side; one on the north) near Spooner Summit. Near South Lake Tahoe, there are two trail heads off of Kingsbury Grade (one on the south side; one on the north). The link above has information about trails, trail maps, etc. Also, these trails are available on AllTrails for those who have the app.
Van Sickle Bi-State Park
Also in South Lake Tahoe is the Van Sickle Bi-State Trail, available on AllTrails. The trail head and parking area are just west of the large condo complex where the Gondola is. It's a nice trail that gets you up to views of the lake within about 20 minutes.
Shakespeare Rock Hike
Accessible from Glenbrook - Shakespeare Rock hike (probably more enjoyable with someone familiar with the route). There is also Slaughterhouse Canyon at the north end of Glenbrook. Once you find the trailhead (just off the road at Land's End), you can hike out and back. There are a few trails that interconnect so the adventurous can hike a loop. Not really covered by AllTrails.
Tahoe East Shore Trail
Tahoe East Shore Trail is a paved lakeside trail at the north end of Lake Tahoe near Incline Village.

Genoa
For those interested in Western history, there is the historic town of Genoa (outside the Tahoe Basin, 30 - 35 minute drive from South Lake Tahoe). It is a very small town and was the first settlement in what became the Nevada Territory (1861-1864). The original settlement was a trading post, called the Mormon Station, which is available to tour. The Pink House is a charming restaurant, that often has live music outside under the trees.
