What's the best way to get to Tecate?

Answer

From San Diego International Airport, Tecate is a 40-mile drive to the southeast via California Highway 94. The Carlos rancho is located about five miles from the border, in Barrio El Escorial. We'll give detailed directions to the rancho when the wedding date gets closer.

What's the best way to cross the border?

Answer

Tecate has its own border crossing, which is far less busy that than the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa crossings in Tijuana, although please know that crossing-times by car can still be 2-3 hours to re-enter the US (there is usually only a short line to enter Mexico). For those leaving their cars at the border, there is usually only a short line to cross by foot.

How do I get around in Tecate without a car?

Answer

Taxis are safe and plentiful near the border crossing, and it costs about $200MX/$10USD to get to Hacienda Santana and the Carlos Rancho (cash required). Ride-hailing apps are also safe, but can be less consistent (cellular data coverage can be spotty, especially on the outskirts of town). For those arriving on Friday July 4, we can also help shuttle you to and from the border, and are happy to help with arrangements for your return as well. :)

Los taxis son seguros y abundantes cerca del cruce fronterizo, y cuesta alrededor de $200MX/$10USD llegar a Hacienda Santana y al rancho de la familia Carlos (se requiere pago en efectivo). Las aplicaciones de transporte son seguras, pero pueden ser menos consistentes (la cobertura de datos móviles puede ser intermitente, especialmente en las afueras de la ciudad). Para quienes lleguen el viernes 4 de julio, podemos ayudarlos con traslados desde y hacia la frontera, y con gusto coordinaremos su regreso también.
