We're Getting Married in San Miguel!

It was the fall of 2020. The Houston dating scene was already an “adventure” those days, but put on top of that a pandemic and social distancing, dating was even that more interesting. Mayra and Eric connected on the internet on a dating site with Eric showing interest and Mayra replying in kind. The two chatted a few times online then decided to trade phone numbers since both agreed that you really can’t replace a good old fashion phone conversation. After a supposed “my phone broke” incident they finally spoke with one another and decided to meet up for a drink to chat. Houston was awaking from Covid restrictions at that time. Reservations were a must and restaurants and bars had certain time restraints. Bosscat Kitchen and Liberations in Houston River Oaks was decided upon for a quick drink. “45 minutes or so” was what Bosscat limited the reservation to. Eric greeted Mayra outside, and even with their face masks on, their eyes gave away the excitement to finally meet in person. The “45 minutes or so” turned into 3 hours as the two found out more about one another. After the date Mayra thought Eric wasn’t interested but little did she know he was already planning the next date.

Eric planned to propose during a trip to Catalina Island, California to celebrate Mayra’s birthday in late December of 2022. With hotel and flights booked, ferry tickets purchased and engagement ring wrapped in a sock all that was left to do was finish packing. On the eve before departure, news hit of major flight cancellations across the country for Southwest Airlines (We’d like to take this moment to thank our good friend Dan for making the suggestion of using SWA. Thanks Dan!). No other flights were available and driving was the only option…but where to?! After the “Oh S#%t” moment passed Mayra and Eric decided the Texas wine country and Fredericksburg was the alternative. Eric scrambled to come up with a plan B and still propose on Mayra’s birthday. Dinner reservations at Sage Restaurant and Lounge were made. Seated at a cozy table Eric gave Mayra her birthday gift that had a message tucked within it- “Happy Birthday, to an incredible woman, that I want to spend forever with”. On bended knee with engagement ring out Eric asked Mayra to marry him, to which Mayra said “Yes, absolutely.”
