Question

What is Big Sur like?

Answer

Big Sur is remote, quiet and pristine. It has the strictest land development laws in the United States, some say in the world. Because of this, the natural beauty is preserved. Big Sur has been called the "greatest meeting of land and sea" where the redwoods and the pacific ocean meet.

Question

Where is the best place to stop for gas?

Answer

We recommend fueling up in Monterey as gas costs a small fortune once you enter Big Sur.

Question

Since this is a national park, will I have cell service?

Answer

Cell phone service and wifi are quite spotty in Big Sur. For this reason, it's important to have all information before starting the drive. Download Google maps offline ahead of time!

Question

Where do you recommend I stay?

Answer

Glen Oaks Big Sur or Big Sur River Inn are our recommended locations to stay.

Question

Can I stay at an Airbnb or a hotel not listed instead?

Answer

Yes but logistics become more complex. Big Sur is a state park in Monterey County, California. This means that lodging options are very limited. Most importantly, our wedding venue does not offer parking. We will have shuttles on the day of the wedding for our guests at hotels in Big Sur and Carmel. Carmel will be an hour long drive each way.

Question

What about Lyft and Ubers?

Answer

Due to it's remote location, ride share options are next to non-existent in Big Sur.

Question

Is there a dress code for the wedding?

Answer

Summer Formal. Think colorful dresses, jumpsuits and ties that incorporate summer colors. You won't need to pull out your ball gowns and shiny shoes but we'd love to see guests have some fun with their outfits. Our color palette will be a mix of yellows, oranges, greens and blues. Our wedding will be held at a beautiful outdoor venue - Loma Vista Gardens. Some parts of the ground will be a mix of gravel, dirt and grass, so please keep that in mind when selecting heels. Please wear layers or bring a light jacket as it can get chilly due to the location near the coast. Feel free to go on Loma Vista's Instagram to get a better lay of the land @lomavistagardens.

Question

Are children welcome?

Answer

If they received an invitation then they most certainly are. We are limited to how many guests can join so this only applies to children that have received an invitation. Please understand that with the shuttles, the event will go from 4 - 10 pm for everyone. For kiddos that need some quiet time, we have a yurt integrated into the venue perfect for playing or resting.

Question

What else should I plan on bringing for the weekend?

Answer

You are going to be in one of the most naturally beautiful parts of California - take advantage of the scenery! There are endless hikes, stunning beaches and a handful of delicious and unassuming restaurants with unbeatable views. Head up to Carmel-by-the-sea if you’re not keen on rugged nature. Some of it's highlights include Pebble Beach, Refuge Spa, Carmel Beach and the many shops on Ocean Avenue.
