The Pandemic Love Story

July 3, 2020

Take a seat and read the story of how Kendall and Eric met and found love during one of the most uncertain times the world has experienced in the modern era. Summer of 2020 was finally here, yet many of us were going stir crazy from Los Angeles' COVID curfew, dining restrictions, beach shutdowns and social distancing. We missed our friends and were looking for an escape to experience normalcy. Seeing how LA was holding firm on not reopening the beaches for the 4th of July weekend, a plan was made by Kendall's friend group to head down to San Diego and get two hotel rooms at the wonderful establishment of Holiday Inn Express. At the time, Kendall was living with a roommate in Venice while Eric was living at home. Eric had recently found out that one of their mutual friends had a roommate moving out in August and was offered the room. Eric happily accepted, and the boys decided that 4th of July weekend would be perfect for Eric to meet some more people in the friend group since they were both planning to be down there for the holiday. On July 3, 2020 fate had a date with Kendall and Eric. Upon arriving to the "serviceable" Holiday Inn Express and settling into the boy and girl rooms, both Eric and Kendall forgot something in their cars. They masked up, made sure they had their keys and opened their hotel doors - to be standing mask to mask and only two pairs of eyes staring at each other. Eric quickly had to remember how to talk to a girl again and Kendall immediately started volleying questions at the new mysterious guy, "Where are you from? How do you know people here? When did you graduate college? Oh, geez they keep making them younger and younger in this friend group!" It was at this point that Eric immediately concluded that he didn't have a shot in the world with this girl who was practically radiating with energy walking down the hallway. On July 4, everything started falling into place. Kendall and Eric sat next to each other on the beach and talked for a bit before Eric proceeded to crack open a white claw, set it down next to him, fall asleep on his towel and then get woken up by a beach policeman to give him an open container ticket. They then talked again later that night, but this conversation was anything but cordial because it took place across the table for beer pong. This is where Eric and Kendall truly believe the relationship started to take off because they started unleashing the most obscene trash talking that anyone has ever heard at each other as the cups started to dwindle on each side. It came down to last cup. Eric's partner sunk his shot and then Eric sunk the second shot to ice the game. Eric proceeds to start screaming at Kendall that she is trash at the game and walked away. Rather than get mad or pissed off that this semi-stranger was yelling at her, she started to fall in love. To end a chaotic 4th of July story, even though Eric beat Kendall at beer pong (and is still undefeated against Kendall) she was still nice enough to let Eric kiss her at the end of the night. Fast forwarding, Kendall and Eric started off as friends in the same friend group once August rolled around, but they both felt like something was there. They would playfully flirt with each other, randomly facetime when someone left their car at the neighborhood Mexican restaurant (Kendall) and meet up within the friend group to hang out. However, Kendall secretly knew that Eric was her future southern-loving, family-oriented, horse riding husband because she was told of a very man that would "bump" into her life 2 years before their fateful meeting. Eric soon finally mustered up enough courage to ask Kendall out on their first date, invited her over to his apartment to cook her dinner and the rest is history. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading a piece of important history in our lives and we cannot wait to celebrate our wedding with each and every one of you.
