Eric and Kat met sometime during freshman year at UCLA. Their friendship then flourished via mutual misery in the form of mechanical engineering upper division classes. They bonded over love of the song "We Built This City" by Jefferson Starship, and hatred of Spencer's jokes. After college, they started hanging out more frequently, partaking in activities that their roommates and friends described as "dates." Kat and Eric thought that idea was ridiculous. To be fair, they were building pillow forts, impulse buying music festival tickets, and nursing hangovers by watching Shrek together. But these were clearly not dates. Then, in August of 2019, a stranger at a music festival asked them, "so what's the deal here? Are you guys dating? And if not, why not? Seems like there's something here." Kat and Eric could not come up with a reasonable answer to that man's question, and thus decided to give it a shot. They shared their first kiss that very same night. Just three years later, almost to the day, Eric proposed to Kat in Lake Como, Italy. After almost giving away the secret numerous times because he is notoriously bad at keeping secrets, he successfully gaslit her into thinking it was not happening and then popped the question in the Villa Monastero gardens in Varenna. She was so surprised, she forgot to say yes. They had dinner that night in a nice restaurant by candlelight, and then happily sprinted through the rain to catch their taxi at the end of the night. Through it all, they've always been best friends. But as their good friend Kelsey would say, it's time to put the cheese back in the fridge. Cheers to them (us)!
