Adam had his regular Capitol Hill softball game rained out – but after brief storm turned to a lovely May evening, the cancellation enabled him to join a rooftop happy hour that friends put together for charity. Given the superb weather Erica decided to join her friend at what turned out to be the same happy hour! Adam immediately noticed and gravitated toward her, but only managed a short conversation. So after texting the mutual friend “Holy mackerel who’s your friend,” he invited her to bring Erica to the Nationals game that Sunday. Soon after the ballgame Adam was able ask Erica on a date and many more to follow :)
The week leading up to the year anniversary of when we met, May 15, was also the week of our birthdays, Erica on May 12 and Adam on May 14. Three months into a generational pandemic, we did not have the double birthday week we would have hoped. However, that did not stop Adam from bringing joy to the week. On Friday, May 15, 2020 – 365 days from meeting – we walked to our favorite outdoor COVID hang, under a beautiful large poplar tree in a park on the water near the confluence of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. Adam told Erica he had spoken to her parents earlier that week, and they’d given their blessing to ask for her hand. She accepted, and as we left the park we saw a doe and her fawn walking along near our tree – no doubt a blessing and an auspicious sign. We can’t wait to see you in Washington DC!
