Flying to Thailand

Absolutely loads of airlines fly from Manchester and Dublin to Bangkok, but there are no direct stops. Flights are usually between 500-700 pound depending on the route and airline. Finn Air are usually good for a cheap option, Emirates usually have the most options for connections and BA and Thai Airways are handy as they fly direct from London Heathrow. We recommend arriving in Bangkok at least a few days before the wedding to allow time to get over your jet-lag and explore the city we call home. We always use skyscanner to compare the cheapest rates: https://www.skyscanner.net/transport/flights/man/bkkt/210212/210227/?adults=2&children=0&adultsv2=2&childrenv2=&infants=0&cabinclass=economy&rtn=1&preferdirects=true&outboundaltsenabled=false&inboundaltsenabled=false&ref=home

Arriving in Bangkok Airports

Arriving in Suvarnabhumi Airport: follow signs for metered taxis when you arrive in the airport. Ignore anyone trying to sell you a taxi on the way. They will ask you if you want to take the tolled highways: say yes. You will pay all tolls for highways. Arriving in Don Mueang Airport: follow signs for metered taxis, ignoring anyone trying to sell you a taxi on the way. Alternatively, go to international or domestic departures and hail a taxi dropping people off. Insist on a meter. They will ask you if you want to take the tolled highways: say yes. You will pay all tolls for highways. There is a 50Baht surcharge on taxis from the airport.

Pre-wedding accommodation in Bangkok

We recommend that you stay in Bangkok for at least a few days before the wedding if you can, to get over your jet lag and explore the city we call home. We will be in work up until the Friday before the wedding but would love to see people for beers and food in the evenings. Traffic in Bangkok can be a nightmare so we suggest that you base yourself somewhere close to the BTS Sukhumvit line as this will give you easy access to visiting all the tourist attractions in town, has great food and drink options and you will be close by to us for meeting up. We currently live close to the On Nut BTS station (address is above). We recommend checking out Airbnb for nice (and cheap) apartments with pools, between On Nut and Asok stations, especially for families. If you are looking for a hotel the Marriot at Thonglor, Sukhumvit 57 is a great location and has one of Bangkok's famous skybars. We have included lots of ideas of places to visit in the 'things to do' section to help you plan.

Maekok River Village Resort

Fang road
ตำบล ท่าตอน, จ.เชียงใหม่ 50280, Thailand
 +66 53 053 628

This is the venue for the wedding. We have booked out the whole resort from Friday 19th February to Monday 22nd February 2021. There is a selection of double, twin and family rooms (which consist of a twin and a double with a connecting door). Cots and additional beds are available if necessary. Estimated room cost for 2 sharing for 3 nights (including all meals): 8,000 - 9,500 Baht. We will provide a more exact price nearer the time when we have all the RSVPs and know the final room set up. As the resort will be full of our guests over the 3 days, meals will be provided in a buffet style in the restaurant to help ease the pressure on the kitchen staff. If you choose to do any of the additional activities put on by the resort, these will be at a (very reasonable) extra cost (see the 'Things to Do' section).

Chiang Rai Airport

There are a number of options for flights from Bangkok's Don Muang (DMK) and Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airports to Chiang Rai (CEI) airport with AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Thai Smile etc. The resort is approximately 1.5 hr drive from the airport. We can arrange for guests to be collected from the airport by the resort's minivans for 2160 Baht for a ten person minivan plus a little extra to cover a luggage truck. If you would like to take advantage of this transfer, then you will need to book one of the following two flights and let us know, so that we can inform the resort (you'll be charged for transfers on check out). 19/2/2021, AirAsia (FD3201) 11:55 - 13:15 Don Mueang (DMK) to Chiang Rai (CEI) 19/2/2021, Thai VietJet Air (VZ134) 18:00 - 19:25 Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Chiang Rai (CEI) If you are arriving outside of these times, then taxis cost around 1200 baht from outside the airport to the left of arrivals. Car hire is also available at the airport.

Post-wedding beach trip to Railay beach

For the rest of the week we plan to head down to Railay in Krabi. If you would like to join us then the easiest ways to get there from Maekok are: Option 1: Minibus or taxi to Chiang Rai airport (1.5 hrs). Flight from Chiang Rai to Bangkok (1hr) Flight from Bangkok to Krabi (1.5hrs). Lots of different budget airlines offer these two routes e.g. Air Asia, Thai Lion Air, Bangkok Airways. Its best to look on skyscanner for the best prices and times. Option 2: Minibus or taxi to Chiang Mai airport (3 hrs). Direct flight from Chiang Mai to Krabi (2 hrs). Only Air Asia offers direct flights from Chiang Mai to Krabi. From Krabi airport you can organise a transfer directly to Railay beach which involves a short taxi/bus ride to the pier (30 mins) and a longtail boat trip (15 mins). We can help you arrange transport and advise on the best flight times. Agoda or booking.com is probably the best place to look for accommodation.
