Most importantly, make sure your passport is up-to-date with at least 6 months before expiration. You do not need a Visa to get into Ecuador. You also do not need to get any shots/vaccinations before traveling. Please be aware, Quito is at 9,350 feet above sea level so make sure you are staying hydrated! If you have other health concerns, please text Enma at (347) 452-1383.
Luckily, Ecuador uses the American Dollar so no need to exchange money before flying. Make sure to have some cash on hand for cab drivers!
NO NO NO NO NO! Please make sure to avoid drinking the tap water at all costs. You *will* get sick. Make sure to order bottled water at restaurants and have some in your hotel for brushing your teeth. And don't open your mouth too wide while singing in the shower ;)
Ecuador has beautiful weather year round since it is so close to the Equator! In July, you should expect for temperatures to hit highs of 60's and lows of 40's. Make sure to bring some layers for the night time!
One of our favorite things about traveling to Ecuador is the food! We recommend the following dishes that are traditional to Ecuador: Locro de Papa: potato, cheese & avocado soup...Enma's favorite dish in Ecuador and makes her grandma cook it for her every visit Fritada: fried pork dish dating back to 19th century Ecuador! The most traditional dish on this list Ceviche: fresh raw fish marinated in citrus juices such as lemon or lime Llapingachos: fried, cheesy potato cakes Empanadas de Viento: fried, cheesy empanadas with sugar Empanadas de Morocho: fried empanadas made of corn Tostado: toasted/fried corn...this was a staple snack in Enma's home growing up :) Pristinos: sweet, fried dough with honey/syrup on top Helado de Paila: ice cream cooked in a traditional copper pot with very fresh ingredients Chocolate: some argue Ecuador is home to the world's best chocolate! Known as "black gold" because Ecuador's cocoa beans are super high-quality. We recommend trying Dark chocolate :)
We will be providing transportation from the hotel to and from the Wedding Venue. For all other personal activities, cabs are cheap and easy to use in Ecuador or if you feel more comfortable you can *Uber Everywhere*.
