The Wedding Website of Enia Bucme and Nathan Ordonez
Our wedding will take place in Latvia, in the small and charming coastal town of Tūja, located about one hour from the capital city, Riga. The ceremony and the celebration afterwards (the reception) will all take place in the same location, so once you arrive there, you can simply relax and enjoy the day.

Flight

Getting to Latvia

To join us, you will first need to fly to Latvia. Guests will need to arrange their own flights, and we recommend booking tickets in advance, as there are only a few airlines that offer direct flights from Switzerland or the Netherlands. If you want the easiest option, we recommend checking AirBaltic, which often has the most convenient direct flights. Other airlines that sometimes fly this route include Transavia, Lufthansa, LOT Airlines, and Air Dolomiti. For those who prefer to save money and don’t mind a layover, you can often find cheaper routes by searching through Google Flights, which is generally the best tool for planning travel to Latvia. A small warning from experience: airlines in the Lufthansa group are sometimes a bit unreliable and occasionally cancel flights or create unexpected overnight layovers in Frankfurt (been there, done that ).

Rental Car

Arriving in Riga

You will land at Riga International Airport (RIX), which is located very close to the city. From the airport you have several easy options to reach the city centre: Taxi The easiest option is to order a taxi through the Bolt app (think Uber, but Baltic!). A ride to the city centre usually costs around 10€. Public Transport You can also take a bus from the airport to the city centre. To buy tickets, download the Mobilly app, where you can purchase a 90-minute ticket for €1.50. Once you enter the bus, simply scan the QR code sticker inside the vehicle to activate your ticket. There is no need to scan again when leaving. Car Sharing Another very common option in Latvia is car-sharing. The most popular services are Bolt Drive, CityBee, and CarGuru. You can pick up and leave cars almost anywhere in the city and rent them for short periods or for an entire day. A full-day rental with Bolt Drive usually costs around €25.

Staying Longer in Latvia pt.1

Explore Riga Riga’s Old Town and city centre are beautiful and full of history. The city is especially famous for its Art Nouveau architecture. In fact, about one third of the buildings in central Riga are Art Nouveau, giving the city the highest concentration of this architectural style in the world. Shopping Latvia is also great for shopping. Prices are generally much lower than in Switzerland or the Netherlands, and because Latvia has a relatively small population, stores are rarely crowded. You’ll often receive very personal attention from shop assistants. One thing to know about Latvian culture: people can be very direct and honest. If a shop assistant tells you that something doesn’t look good on you, it’s not meant to be rude - it’s simply our cultural way of being helpful! Food Nathan especially loves visiting Latvia for the food. The portions are huge, delicious, and affordable. It’s very possible you’ll return home a few kilograms heavier - but very happy. A Trip to the Farmers Market Riga is home to one of the largest markets in Europe – the Riga Central Market. It’s located in huge historic hangars that were originally built for Zeppelin airships. The market has a bit of a rough, authentic “babushka-style” charm, but that’s exactly what makes it special. You’ll find everything from freshly baked rye bread and smoked fish to local cheeses, pickles, berries, pastries, and all kinds of traditional Latvian delicacies. If you prefer something a little more modern and hip, we also recommend visiting Āgenskalna Market. It combines a traditional farmers market with a beautiful renovated space filled with small food stalls and cafes where you can try freshly made dishes and local products. It’s a great spot for a relaxed lunch.

Staying Longer in Latvia pt.2

If you decide to turn your trip into a little vacation, we highly recommend it! Latvia has a lot to offer, and we would be more than happy to help you plan your stay. Here are a few highlights: Summer Solstice – Līgo / Jāņi (June 23–24) Just a few days before our wedding, Latvia celebrates its biggest holiday of the year - the summer solstice. It’s basically Christmas in summer, but without the gifts. People celebrate with friends and family all across the country. There are bonfires, traditional music, dancing, singing, special foods, and lots of traditions. One of them is staying awake the entire night, because it is believed to be the shortest night of the year. Nathan visited Latvia for this celebration last year and experienced things like dancing with strangers to folk music, singing around bonfires, jumping over fires, carrying burning logs with groups of men, and eating freshly made cheese served on maple leaves. It’s a truly unique experience and definitely worth seeing. Swamp Hiking This might sound unusual, but swamp hiking is a popular activity in Latvia. You can either walk along wooden boardwalk trails through the bog landscape or join guided tours where you wear special “bog shoes” (they look a bit like skis) and walk directly across the swamp. Nature Latvia is a very green country — more than half of the land is covered by forests. It’s common to see endless pine forests, peaceful lakes, and quiet countryside landscapes. Our Baltic Sea beaches are also something special. The sand is incredibly fine and soft, and the coastline stretches for kilometers with wide open space and very few crowds. Instead of busy resort beaches, you’ll often find long peaceful shores surrounded by pine forests, perfect for walking, swimming, or simply watching the sunset. Nature in Latvia feels very wild, calm, and untouched, which is something many visitors find surprisingly beautiful.
