We met thanks to a little scheming by Matt's aunt Julie and Katelyn's mom Beth, who are friends from college. Sometimes parents talk about their kids' love lives, and they got the idea that we might make a good match. Surprisingly both of us agreed to meet, phone numbers were shared, and eventually Matt texted Katelyn. Our first date was November 1, 2018 at Venn Brewing in Minneapolis. After that, we didn't need our family to encourage us anymore, we both had a good feeling about this.
We had made plans to spend a long weekend up on the North Shore in late September to enjoy some fall colors. We planned to camp near Two Harbors, and meet up with the Laue family for some hiking. The weekend arrived and the forecast called for a lot of rain, camping seemed a lot less fun-- but Matt insisted we still go. In hindsight I should have suspected something was up, Matt's not usually big on doing anything in the rain but playing video games indoors :) We woke up Saturday to cloudy skis and made our way to the Laue's place. The rain fell steadily all morning, but finally in the afternoon it lightened to a drizzle and we jumped at the opportunity to get out for a hike. With Reggie, our dog, leading the way, the whole crew set out on the Superior Hiking Trail. The rain stopped during the hike and the sun even peaked out. About a mile into the trail, there was a nice overlook. Matt encouraged me to stop and look out at the view. I turned around to check where the rest of the group was, only to see Matt pulling something out his pocket and getting down on one knee. He asked me to marry him and I immediately said yes. It was the perfect proposal, in the perfect spot. We'll forever call that lookout "engagement ridge".
After postponing twice we are looking forward to celebrate with friends and family this October.
