We met in High School many years ago. Since we have a 4 year age difference, at the time we didn't think much of it. Over the years through mutual friends, we would run into one another here and there but circumstances in those moments never led to anything more. Then after some big changes in our lives, life brought us back together for what some may call fate. Small talk and texting led to long distance visits between Royal Oak and Grand Rapids, and let's just say the rest is history!
Doug and (now*) Groomsman Alex Demothenes planned a trip to Malibu as a meet up location to run a half-marathon they had both been training for. Although what began as a guys weekend, having never been to The Golden State, Liz invited herself along for what turned out to be the best vacation of her life, thus far! For those of you who have never been to Malibu, you are missing out! Malibu is known for it's Mediterranean climate and its 21-mile strip of the Malibu coast which has some of the best views in the world. The weekend started out with carb loading for the big race at a small Italian restaurant and relaxing in preparation for the big day. Saturday morning was perfect with a beautiful sunrise and both Doug and Alex ran the race in less than 2 hours (woo-hoo!). As a group, we were ready to go explore the acclaimed beauty that Malibu has to offer. We ate, we drank, we bonded and didn't want to go home. The weekend ended with a group decision to take a hike through the mountains on our final day. Not expecting anything other than a walk through nature, Liz was completely surprised when at the end of the trail we were not only greeted by a beautiful waterfall hidden in the depths of the forest but moments later Doug kneeling down on one knee! With smiles, tears and a big YES we made our way back to the car to go celebrate on the coast of Malibu with excitement and champagne!
