There are hundreds of things to do on this side of the mountains, especially if you plan on spending some extra time here. Farm Markets abound. West Oaks or Marker Miller are favorites. If you are a civil war buff The Belle Grove Mansion and the Winchester Civil War Museum are made for you.. Don’t miss the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. You are in Virginia’s wine country. Our favorite is Fox Meadows. If you like beer, try Bear Chase Brewery. Both of these places have fabulous views! Go hiking in Shenandoah National Park, enjoy the scenic overlooks on Skyline Drive or check out Skyline Caverns.
More fun things to do
The Air and Space Museum Annex (to DCs museum) is by Dulles and well worth a visit. The Enola Gay is there as well as a Concorde. You are an hour away from Harper’s Ferry, an hour and a half - minimum - from Washington DC. Winchester Walking Mall has lots of little shops and places to eat, as does Main Street in Front Royal. Horseback riding, hot air balloon rides. canoe trips down the Shenandoah River, tour the Route 11 potato chip factory. The hotel (and Google) can help with directions to all of these suggestions.
