Flight
March is high season (spring break) so we recommend buying these as early as you can! If you're able, plan to be there Friday evening for a casual get together (food & drinks). We will also plan to hang out by the pool on Sunday if you'd like to extend your trip to Monday. There are several transportation options from SJU Airport to your hotel. Ubers, taxis, and a car rental center are available close to baggage claim at the airport.
Hotel
The Royal Sonesta San Juan 5961 Isla Verde Avenue San Juan, San Juan 00979, Puerto Rico We have arranged a room block at the Royal Sonesta San Juan. We will be staying here all weekend (checking out Monday). It is a 10 minute drive from the airport, 15m drive to Old San Juan, and is right on Isla Verde beach. Uber and taxis are easy to access, so no need to rent a car if you plan to stick around the hotel. We will provide shuttles between the hotel and our wedding on Saturday night. On Sunday, we plan to hang out at the pool/beach if you'd like to join us! To book your room, click the "View" link below:
Shuttle
March 29, 2025 3:45 pm - 11:00 pm
We will provide transportation between the hotel and our wedding venue on Saturday. Boarding for the shuttle will take place on the street in front of the Royal Sonesta (not in the covered area in front of the hotel). The shuttle will depart at 3:45pm. Return shuttles will depart from the wedding (Hacienda Siesta Alegre) at 10:00pm and 11:00pm.
Rental Car
If you hope to spend a couple of days in the greater San Juan area, we would recommend Uber (to limit the complications with parking and navigating). If you'd like to explore the island a little more, renting a car will give you the flexibility to travel off the beaten path. There is a rental car center close to baggage claim at the San Juan airport. Tips for driving in Puerto Rico: Google Maps works great across the island. Roads in the greater San Juan area are in good condition and the driving style is similar to Miami (lots of traffic, assertive drivers). Roads in the mountains can be narrow and winding, with limited visibility around corners, but are relatively well maintained.
Travel Note
TIPS & TRICKS Passport: You do not need a Passport to travel to Puerto Rico. Money: Credit & debit cards are widely accepted, but we would recommend bringing some cash for purchases at smaller businesses (some bars/restaurants/parking/tips). Language: Many people working in the service/tourism industries speak English, but Spanish is spoken in most of the island (especially outside of the metro area). Learning a couple of key phrases could be helpful!
