Great question! NAG-pore. It's in the state of Maharashtra (Mah-hah-raas-tra).
This link may be helpful in answering any wedding attire questions: https://www.everafterguide.net/what-to-wear-to-an-indian-wedding.html?sid=rwdt4u5xs814nne81kjzxb4t2sorlqqj We recommend that all of our guests wear Indian formalwear. The options for WOMEN include: saree, lehenga, salwar kameez, kurti; or a formal, lightweight, and conservative Western dress. The options for MEN include: kurta, sherwani, or western suit. We encourage you all to wear something colorful. There are lots of great, affordable options you can order online: https://www.utsavfashion.com/ and https://www.myntra.com/fusion-wear Emma's favorite Indian designer: https://www.ritukumar.com/; you can also find Ritu Kumar brick and mortar shops in Mumbai, Delhi, and Nagpur. You can also find Indian clothing stores near any major US city. If you're in the Bay Area, we recommend this spot: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sari-palace-berkeley
We recommend you arrive in Nagpur on 12/28 afternoon, so you have time to get ready for the evening program, the sangeet. The wedding ceremony and start times will be much more informal than an American wedding. We will add approximate times to the event schedule.
Up until December, call Emma and Saurabh with questions. We will update this with contacts for once you reach India.
December is dry and warm in Nagpur. Day time temperatures reach around 80F and nights are chilly, with lows in the 40s(F). Please note that temperatures vary all across India. Every region has distinct climates; please plan accordingly if you're traveling before or after the wedding
The CDC recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid for visiting India. Most travel doctors will also recommend taking malaria medication. (We personally do not take the medication, because of its severe side effects.) Regardless of whether or not you take the medication, we would recommend being vigilant about preventing bug bites by wearing clothing that covers your skin, using deet spray in the day, and, at night, using a less harsh, Indian brand of mosquito repellant cream called Odomos.
