We love nearby Sackets Harbor because of its historic charm. This waterfront village has the feel of a coastal town in Maine, full of cute shops and restaurants, and is a simple 25-minute drive to The Overlook. Close by Henderson Harbor is equally charming, and an essential part of the scenic drive around the area!
The Thousand Islands are absolutely worth exploring! Take a water taxi or cruise ride through international waters, and be sure to make a pit stop at the gorgeous Boldt Castle along the way. Emma personally recommends making this experience part of your trip on a day with pleasant weather!
Sometimes we still have perfect beach days in September! Weather permitting, this public beach is a stunning example of why Great Lakes reign supreme! Sandy beaches and at times impressive surf make this lake perfect for swimming or sunbathing. If the weather is on the chilly side, this beach is equally as fun to explore for some fossil and driftwood collecting. The public beach is accessible by car; Emma's family grew up swimming on this beach on our private lot, which weather permitting, we may still have access to by boat.
Sandy Creek and nearby Pulaski are home to famous Salmon and other freshwater fishing. All manner of rivers, ponds and lakes are accessible for anyone interested! Some of Ryan's favorite times spent in this part of New York have been out on the water. If you are interested in doing some serious fishing, please remember to get yourself a New York State freshwater fishing license for the weekend.
A personal favorite of Emma's grandmother, Gram's Diner in Adams, New York is a classic diner spot for any meal of the day, and Adams is a fun historic small town to explore. We also highly recommend Mill House Market on Route 13 in Pulaski for their breakfasts, coffees, pizzas, sandwiches, salads and more.
Bring a book, craft, board game, fishing pole, yoga mat, you name it! Our favorite thing about our trips here is leaving our phones behind while we spend some quality time. Given the cottage's remote location, sometimes cell service can be limited anyway, so anticipate some R & R. We will have kayaks for use for the weekend and we have dock access. Feel free to come sunbathe, picnic, or enjoy a bonfire on our waterfront plot. Bring some binoculars to take a peek at the local nesting Bald Eagles and other bird life.
