FAQs and History

The Wedding Website of Emma Neal and Ryan Mulkern
The Overlook- our venue- is our family cottage. Built by Emma's great-great-grandfather in 1906, we are lucky to know this land and historic building as a second home. Known to us as Holyoke Cottage, The Cottage, or The Overlook for its breathtaking view over Sandy Pond, we cherish all time we are able to spend here, and treasure the connection it brings to nature and the roots of our family tree. The photograph of the building process was taken by Emma's great-great grandfather. The glass slides were hand-colored by Emma's Gramps, her great-grandfather.
Question

Is there a theme?

Answer

Yes! What would this party be without a theme? We tried to edit down our favorite things into one word, but Emma in particular found it impossible to do that, so here is the "Theme Phrase" we came up with: Medieval-Gothic-Renaissance-Vampires-in an Enchanted Forest. It may be a mouthful, but it will be magical good fun!

Question

Accessibility

Answer

The venue is accessible by a gradual gravel driveway in the back, and by a stone uphill walkway in front of the building. The walkway up the hill is fairly steep on uneven stone pavers-although it is quick- and we would advise to take the gradual driveway route around the hill if you are unsteady on your feet. We are asking guests not to park cars up at the cottage during the wedding as we will be using the grounds for the event, however, when needed folks can absolutely be dropped off at the top of the hill. Just let us know ahead of time and we will arrange it! There will be indicators showing guests where to park. We will be providing restrooms.

Question

Will there be an open bar?

Answer

We will not be serving alcoholic beverages at the wedding. Instead, we will have custom-recipe mixed drinks, coffee, soft drinks, and CBD/THC seltzers to sip on! We thank everyone in advance for understanding this is how we would prefer to celebrate our marriage.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

We would like for everyone to plan to have to walk around a grassy property, so shoes should be walkable and comfortable, yet stylish! The weather will likely be warm during the day and then cool down quite a bit at night, so we recommend coming prepared with a layer. Our dress code is elevated cocktail attire appropriate for autumn-- think jewel tones. If you would like to be inspired by our theme and incorporate it into your ensemble in some way, we highly encourage you do so! For example, if you plan on wearing a dress, consider a long dress with a dramatic sleeve, in a more medieval style. If you want to be on theme but don't know where to start, consider jewelry options, accessories, or perhaps the silhouette/material of your garments. We are not asking guests to be in costume, and in fact, we would prefer you don't go out and buy a costume from a party store. Just have fun with it!

Question

Are kids or pets allowed?

Answer

We are welcoming children to attend our wedding ceremony and reception, but please be advised the after party will be for our adult guests only, and we will not be having a separate "kid's menu" or providing children's entertainment. Pets are not invited to attend any part of the event. Thank you in advance for your understanding!

Question

May I Take Pictures During the Ceremony?

Answer

We are asking guests to be "unplugged" for our ceremony. We have a professional photographer documenting the entire event, and would much prefer to not see cell phones being used in the photos we get back. Please be present with us in the moment, and feel free to take as many photos as you'd like once the ceremony is over!
