How We Met

Emma and Miguel almost met once. It was in Guinjata Bay, a small village in Mozambique where the ocean sets the rhythm of daily life. They were both there for the same reason—an underwater photography internship—but never crossed paths. He left. She arrived. A single day passed between them without either knowing it mattered. A year later, they both returned to the same place to become divemasters. Emma had already been there for months when Miguel arrived, fully settled into the dive center. This time, they met. At first, she was his boss. He was learning the system, and she already knew the place well. What stood out wasn’t anything dramatic—it was just who he was: steady, calm, and fully himself. Emma noticed that. Miguel noticed her energy and confidence in the water. Over time, work turned into something more, built quietly through shared routines and long days in the same place. Puerto Rico is home for them. Miguel is from there, and Emma has come to love the island for its natural beauty—from ocean to rainforest, mountain drives to waterfalls, and wildlife that feels part of everyday life. It’s not a dramatic story. Just two people who ended up in the same place at the right time.
