Vineyard DictionaryVineyard Dictionary

Island Time (adj.) The slower pace at which time moves while on the island. On Island (adj.) What you say when you’re physically on Martha’s Vineyard. Islander (noun) A person who was born on the island, and only on the island, not just to island parents. Washashore (noun) A person that lives on Martha’s Vineyard, but was not born on the island. Off Island (adj.) What you say when you’re not physically on Martha’s Vineyard, but you’re still on island time. Up Island (adj.) The more secluded, rural towns of the island including West Tisbury & Chilmark. 5 Corners (noun) The intersection right as you get off the ferry where 5 different streets meet, but only 3 have stop signs. Chappy (noun) That’s what we call the island off the island, Chappaquiddick. The Triangle (noun) The spot just outside of downtown Edgartown where Beach Road and Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road meet…aka the spot with the traffic all summer!
